Hertz told me to eat a burger because I'm too skinny

Updated: Sep 17, 2024

During my employment at Hertz, I was discriminated against because of my body type and eating habits. I was outcasted from food gatherings like lunches and potlucks.

A manager made a public scene about me not wearing a Hertz work shirt, even though I was wearing a Hertz jacket, and went on to tell me to "eat" when I explained that they didn't fit me. It was an attack not only against my body but my femininity, as no woman with my body type could fit into these shirts. Most employees didn't wear uniforms so I was outcasted just because of my body specifically. A new girl started later and she wasn't even dressed appropriately for work and nobody said anything to her.

Another employee publicly shamed my body as she told me to eat her burger because I was "a little on the slender side" and "looked like I could use one." She said it in hate and wasn't punished for it.

These employees just couldn't keep their eyes off of my body but also couldn't include me in anything. They all just stared at me like I was some kind of different animal.

HR did nothing except allow management and employees to team up and get me fired for telling on them. They acted like I was making a big deal out of nothing when it affected me every day. It was less about offense and more about an uncomfortable environment. I am not offended, meaning I don't care what you think about my body. I do care that you are sexually harrassing me, openly judging me and discriminating against me at my place of employment.

I do not sit around and think about how fat you are or publicly humiliate you or sexually harrass you and somehow I am the one that is jobless. It doesn't make any sense. It's called mobbing, bossing and bullying.
